The Guild’s February meeting–along with many other local events–was cancelled due to weather. The much anticipated March program, Machine Trapunto, was taught by Connie Huston.
Members gathered around the sewing machine to watch as the trapunto design was free-motion stitched on an intricate paisley pattern.
Once the design stitching is completed, the extra batting is carefully clipped away right next to the stitched design. After trimming, the completed trapunto design is laid on white or colored fabric before packaging. Because the trapunto design is stitched on very sheer fabric, brightly colored fabric shows through the top layer, creating white-on-pastel “shadow trapunto.” See photos below.

A bright fabric placed behind the completed trapunto's sheer top fabric shows through, creating shadow trapunto. Whether white or colored fabric is chosen, the next step is to layer with batting and backing, then quilted as desired to emphasize the trapunto design.
Kay R commented that the Underground Railroad Quilts exhibit at the Gallia County Historical Society has been extended. Many of the quilts are the work of Guild members.
Jane C announced a pillowcase dress workshop planned for March 23, starting at 9 AM, to sew dresses for charity orgainizations in Africa . A pillowcase, or one yard of fabric, is required to make each dress.
